4 out of 5 stars Castlevania Fighter   June 30, 2010
L. LeSueur
I felt awkward playing this game at first. The controls were uncomfortable and the gameplay felt like an uninspired Soul Calibur rip-off. I honestly didn't think I'd keep it. But something kept me playing; maybe it was the cheesy but stylish graphics, or the over-the-top special moves; or maybe it was the novelty of having a fighting game with Castlevania characters. But despite ending my first session with a grimaced face, I came back every few days or so to try and figure out why it was still in my collection. After about a half-dozen sessions, I got into 'the groove' and started enjoying the game.
You can either use the Wiimote with nunchuck or GC controller. Personally, I found the best control scheme came from using a PS2 controller via an adapter. Although when I use the Wiimote with nunchuck I feel more involved with the game and it feels more action-packed, my effectiveness declines due to the placement of buttons and limited control schemes available thru the options menu.
One strange thing about this game is that it doesn't automatically make you face your opponent; you can turn your back to them, run away, miss attacks due to being just a degree off, etc. It certainly made things a bit more difficult.
This isn't pick-up-and-play type game. To extract any level of enjoyment, you will probably need to go thru the training mode and manual. Not that it's necessarily a difficult game; it's just that the controls are quite awkward and very different from traditional fighting games and take some getting used to.
'Judgment' is not by any means a groundbreaking game. Compared to contemporary fighters, it is quite average and bland. But if you are a fan of retro games and don't mind 6th gen-type graphics, give CJ some time and you will most likely enjoy it at some level.

3 out of 5 stars Castlevania is NOT a fighting game...   May 12, 2010
Victus (USA)
As a 3D fighting game, Castlevania: Judgment isn't bad. This is probably the best fighting game that I've seen on the Wii besides Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All Stars (Nintendo Wii).

That said, this is not Castlevania except for the use of character names and traits. I didn't mind the whole manga/anime look in Castlevania Dracula X and Symphony of the Night. However, this game uses the manga/anime look to a far extreme that makes them look more like anime characters cosplaying as Castlevania characters (if that makes sense). This look is good as long as it works for the game like in the PSP title BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger.

Overall, the game is a decent addition to your Wii game library. As a fan of Castlevania, this game feels as though the creators were cashing in on the Castlevania title and franchise.

My one hope is to see the newest Castlevania addition, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow on the Wii as a stand alone game and not a port. We all know this won't happen...not anytime soon.

2 out of 5 stars Looks greats, but is not...   March 19, 2010

Looking at the intro movie, artbox of the game and knowing Castlevania is a very good saga, make you think this game worth a try, but to be honest, this game is really disappointing...

When I bought it I knew it was a fighting game, and I knew it will be not so great as other castlevania games, but yet, the game is not what I expected...

The gameplay is an odd cross between third person adventure and fighting style, you have free movement on the screen, but the autolock of the game is so bad, so you will be hitting the air a lot of times, and make it specially difficult when you use to jump a lot, because sometimes you jump over the head of your enemy when you are trying to actually land over him...

The story mode is so bored, and you hardly see a difference between arcade and history, except for some few lines of dialogues...

The Wi-fi connection looks to work good, maybe because there is not so many people playing this game, it have a very few lag or none, but that's not a good plus if you don't like to play it at all...

Maybe you just need to use to the gameplay, but I don't recommend you buy this game, doesn't matter if you are a Castlevania fan or not, this game is not so good at all...

1 out of 5 stars Is that........... Light Belmont?   March 15, 2010

When I played this game, Castlevania Judgment, my first reaction was "What is this? I don't even..". They've somehow turned Castlevania into the typical anime series garbage, complete with lame cliches as well as loli characters -- This shouldn't exist, honestly.. Takeshi Obata should be curb stomped into a pile of Deathnote novels for enabling Konami to further delevope this mockery to the great Castlevania series.. what a joke.

AVOID THIS GAME!

2 out of 5 stars Have kanomi gone mad?   December 26, 2009

First of all we have all grown to love castlevania as a great action adventure, but have kanomi lost their mind when they decided to change castlevainia into a figthing game. All that I can say kanomi good try but wrong choose of action, did these developers took time to realize how many fan heart they have broken. One thing though, at least castlevania judgment ain't anything like soul calibour ledgens. If that game had a neck i would have hang it or break its neck. Kanomi can you please take back castlevania to where it belong.
